Are you aged 15 to 19? Are you interested in having a say in the Gallery’s programme?

Do you want to gain new skills and meet new people? If the answer is yes, we'd love you to join our Youth Art Ambassador Programme.

What is YAAP?
YAAP is a chance for local rangatahi to meet other like-minded people, and contribute their thoughts, opinion, and suggestions about the Gallery as we develop our exhibitions, workshops and events.  This is your chance to be heard and make a real difference to what happens at Te Whare Toi o Heretaunga. Plus, there's free food and drink!

You’ll also will learn about all the different roles at the Gallery and get insight into exciting possible career pathways. You'll meet artists and learn from them through workshops and wānanga, to improve and contribute to your art portfolio. Ambassadors get entry to all events and workshops at the Gallery for the year, and are encouraged to spread the word and share their learnings with teachers and peers in our community.

YAAP is free, peer-led and shaped by those who take part in the programme. The Gallery is committed to creating relevant and meaningful opportunities for young people, enabling them to take an active role in shaping what happens at the Gallery and YAAP is a key part of this.

Upon completion of the Youth Art Ambassador Programme, students will receive a Certificate of Participation, perfect for your CV, university or job applications.

When is it?
Our Youth Art Ambassadors will meet at the Gallery fortnightly, on Thursday afternoons from 3.15pm till 4.45pm, from March to August. There will be some weekend workshops throughout the year, however, once part of YAAP, Ambassadors will collectively decide upcoming dates.

Want to apply?
Applications have closed for this year and will reopen in 2025. Please contact the Gallery by emailing hastingsartgallery@hdc.govt.nz or phone 06 871 5095.
