Artist workshop | Saturday, 17 September, 11am to 2.30pm
“In my case all painting… is an accident. I foresee it and yet I hardly ever carry it out as I foresee it. It transforms itself by the actual paint. I don’t in fact know very often what the paint will do, and it does many things which are very much better than I could make it do” - Artist Francis Bacon
Exploring experimental painting and surface treatment techniques can be a wonderful way to freshen up your practice. When you change your processes and become open to ‘chance happenings’ in your work, you add excitement to your visual language. Join painter Lisa Chandler on this fast-paced, half-day workshop, which will explore a range of mark-making, mediums and experimental processes. This workshop will give you plenty of creative ideas to take back to your own studio.
Lisa Chandler is a contemporary history painter - the continuing thread of her practice is her love of the act of painting, the substance of paint and different types of mark-making. She constantly strives for a balance between abstraction and figuration in her work. Urban structures and people intertwine through a process of layering, obliterating and tracing. Alongside her large-scale paintings, she also creates works on paper, often including collage and printmaking techniques.
This workshop is $20 per person, including materials. Limited numbers. Bookings are essential - please email Juliet Cottrell to book. Please note Lisa is giving a floor talk prior to this workshop at 10am, which is free to attend, no booking required.
