Peter Madden was born in Napier. He studied at Auckland Institute of Technology, and Elam School of Fine Arts at Auckland University. He has exhibited widely both within New Zealand and internationally.
In this workshop, students will explore Madden’s arts practice, and collage as a unique genre, particular from the 20th Century forward. There will be an informal lecture about the use of collage techniques as a generative tool with all artistic practice, like a drawing mode as preparatory thinking before painting, sculpting or post media art making. Students will view and discuss Madden’s installation in the EAST 2018 exhibition. The artist will introduce several techniques and styles used to create collage. Through a hands on activity, students will be exploring photo montage, using magazines as a kind of printed flotsam and jetsam.
